Here's How New London Is Combatting Recent Rise In Shootings

Mayor Michael E. Passero and Police Chief Brian M. Wright detailed their plans to stop the recent rise in shootings in New London.

NEW LONDON, CT — Mayor Michael E. Passero and Police Chief Brian M. Wright said Friday that the city is committing additional resources to the streets and affected neighborhoods after three shooting incidents in the past three weeks.

None of the incidents have resulted in physical injury, the officials noted, but they added that two incidents have required securing local schools as prudent precautionary measures. All three of the
incidents are being given priority investigative status by the New London Police Department’s Investigative Services Division.

Passero has authorized Wright to utilize "whatever resources are necessary" to address these shooting incidents and to identify and "bring to justice these reckless individuals threatening the safety of our community."

Wright said he has allocated additional local personnel from the patrol, vice, and narcotics
divisions, and support personnel from the traffic and community services divisions, as
well as state and regional policing partners.
