Homicide Ruling Made in New London Taser Incident

Lashano Gilbert died after reportedly being Tased twice while in New London police custody.

The Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner recently released a ruling that said Lashano Gilbert’s death is a homicide, The Day reported.

Gilbert, 31, died on Saturday, Oct. 4, after reportedly being Tased twice over a less than eight hour period, according to WFSB. He was in the custody of the New London Police Department at that time.

The ruling of homicide in indicative of someone’s death occurring due to the actions of another person, NBC Connecticut reported.

On Oct. 6 of last year, Gilbert’s family filed a formal complaint with the Connecticut NAACP alleging that New London Police Officers violated his civil rights, according to a press release from Tamara Lanier, CT NAACP Criminal Justice Chair.

Lanier said then that Gilbert is the 15th person to die on Connecticut streets after being Tased by police.
