ID Released In New London Fatal Shooting

Police have identified a man who was shot and killed in New London on Sunday.

NEW LONDON, CT — Police have identified a man killed in a shooting Sunday evening. The victim was Gregory Williams, 42, of New London.

Officers responded to a shots fired call on Connecticut Avenue between Prest Street and McDonald Street at 7:19 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower extremity, police said. Officers immediately rendered medical aid on the scene, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival, police said.

"It is very difficult and upsetting when something so senseless happens in our community," Mayor Michael Passero said in a statement. "I am thinking of the victim’s family, friends, and everyone in New London. This kind of behavior does not reflect who we are or what we have worked toward as a community."

Police said further information will be released as the investigation progresses.

Passero said the "main focus is on identifying the person responsible, and we are using all available resources to carry out this investigation."
