Intoxicated Man Arrested After Driving Car Through Gate at Ocean Beach Park: Police

The man told police he was "scared" when he realized he was locked in and did not know how to get out, police said.

NEW LONDON, CT — A Connecticut man has been arrested for smashing his vehicle through the locked gate of Ocean Beach Park.

Police said at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, New London Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call that a motor vehicle had "smashed" its through the locked gate of Ocean Beach Park.

An alert officer, who was assisting with an investigation in the downtown area, observed the suspect car and suspect operator pull into the lot of a convenience store on Bank Street, police said. The operator stated that he was "scared" when he realized he was locked in and did not know how to get out, police said.

Subsequently, the male, who was identified as Hector Sanitago, 32, of Walnut Street, Wauregan, CT, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving, evading responsiblity, and criminal mischief.

The damage to gate estimated at $2,000 or more, police said.
