Large Development Underway At Site Of Historic Church Collapse In New London: Reports
A historic church at a downtown site collapsed in 2024. Construction has begun on a mixed-use development at the property.
NEW LONDON, CT — Forty-six rental units are being constructed at the site where a historic church collapsed in downtown New London in 2024, according to media reports.
The new project will also include two commercial spaces at the site of the former New London First Congregational Church, WTNH News-8 reported.
The church at the intersection of State and Union streets collapsed Jan. 25, 2024.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site Tuesday, with construction anticipated to take 17 months.

The new $26 million project comes from nonprofit developer Eastern Connecticut Housing Opportunities, according to NBC CT.
Nine of the apartments will be dedicated to those with intellectual disabilities. The residential development intends to attract a range of income levels.
