Local Historical Fiction Reading and Book Signing: Tim Weed reads from Will Poole's Island at Bank Square Books

Tim Weed will appear at Bank Square Books in downtown Mystic to read from his new historical fiction book Will Poole’s Island on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 6:30. The novel is based on a meeting in the forest between a rebellious young Englishman and a visionary Wampanoag leader that leads to a dangerous collision of societies, an epic sea journey, and the making of an unforgettable friendship. Will Poole’s Island is set on the rocky shores of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Tim will read a few selections from the book, talk about his historical research, and his writing process. He will be available to sign books.

Will Poole’s Island is Tim Weed’s first novel. He is the winner of a Writer’s Digest Popular Fiction Award, and his collected stories have been shortlisted for the New Rivers Press Many Voices Project, the Autumn House Fiction Prize, and the Lewis-Clark Press Discovery Award. Based in Vermont and Nantucket, Tim is a lecturer in the MFA Writing program at Western Connecticut State University and a featured expert for National Geographic Expeditions.

“Immersive, like the best of historical fiction… This riveting portrayal of early Colonial New England shines a speculative but compelling light on the time and place.” – Kirkus Reviews

“Tim Weed’s Will Poole’s Island is a doorway to an earlier world when the United States existed as a borderless tract of land whose dimensions could hardly be imagined. This is a superb novel, written with truth and daring at its core.” -- Joseph Monninger, National Endowment for the Arts Fellow and author of The World as We Know It
