Man Charged With Gun Violations In New London: Police

A man was arrested early Saturday morning and is facing gun charges, according to police.

NEW LONDON, CT - A man was arrested on gun charges in New London over the weekend.

Police were investigating a shooting at a municipal lot at Golden Street and Eugene O'Neill Drive when they found a man seated in a vehicle in the area of Golden and Green streets at 4:14 a.m. Saturday.

Police identified the man in the vehicle as Maurice Milligan, 45, of Taftville. Police found he had a loaded gun in his waistband.

Milligan does not possess a valid pistol permit and is a convicted felon, police said. He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, weapon in a motor vehicle, and illegal carrying of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

Police said, "At this time, Milligan's firearm arrest appears to be unrelated to the shooting investigation being conducted in the area of Golden Street and Eugene O'Neill Drive." However, both investigations are still active.
