Man Charged With Manslaughter In Fatal New London Scooter Crash: PD

A man was arrested in connection with a scooter crash last month that left another man dead, according to police.

NEW LONDON, CT — A man has been charged in connection with a fatal scooter crash last month, according to police.

Francha J. Francis, 30, of New London, was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, operating a motor vehicle under suspension (license), and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Two scooters were involved in a crash on Broad Street near the Cedar Grove cemetery entrance Oct. 9 at 10:56 a.m. Police arrived and found a man unresponsive in the road.

He was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Raymond Getty, 68, of New London, died due to his injuries at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Oct. 11.

A police investigation led to Francha's arrest. His bond was set at $100,000.
