Crews rescued the child, a 13-month-old boy, from a crib in a second-floor bedroom. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

George Dodson was found in the home's backyard with non-life-threatening injuries that appeared to be self-inflicted.

During the investigation, George Dodson told police he was jealous of his wife, so he killed her with a hammer and set the home on fire, according to NBC CT.

Dodson was a second-class petty officer and had been a member of the U.S. Navy for five years.

Paul J. Narducci, New London Judicial District State’s Attorney, said that although a prison sentence "can never erase the pain of such a horrific and senseless act," he hopes the result brings "some peace and comfort to the victim’s family and friends," Hearst Connecticut Media reported.
