New London Activates Cold Weather Protocol Ahead Of Freezing Temps
The City of New London will open public warming centers in anticipation of the upcoming intensely cold weather.

The City of New London, working with the Homeless Hospitality Center and New London Library, announced warming centers for the public for the upcoming intense cold weather expected in the area over the next few days.

The Daytime Hospitality Center, located at the Emergency Shelter at 325 Huntington Street, is open weekdays from 8 am - 4:30 pm. Masks required. Showers, a landline, Wi-Fi, a photocopier, a mail center, desktop computers, and a twice-weekly Community Health Center clinic are available with assistance from staff and volunteers. Nighttime hours will be from 6 pm, and check out will be at 6 am; masks are required. A 211 call is unnecessary before arriving at the shelter, and they will do their best to complete a CAN assessment and intake with overnight guests.
A daytime Warming Center is also open at the New London Public Library at 63 Huntington Street in the Adult Reading Room. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 7:00 pm; Friday and Saturday, 9:30 am through 5:00 pm; and Sunday, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

New London Police and Fire Department Personnel will closely monitor those at risk or needing sheltering services. Community members are encouraged to check on their family members and neighbors who might be at risk and require additional assistance during this dangerous cold period.
For individuals experiencing housing and rent difficulties, please visit the NLHHC Housing Resource Center at 727 Bank Street, open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 9 am to noon. Or call the Housing Resource Center directly at 860-501-9900 to make an appointment.
