New London Auto and Passenger Ferry Jennifer C. Joins Cross Sound Ferry Fleet
Newest addition will bring the peak number of ferry departures and arrivals to 62 each day between New London and Orient Point.

NEW LONDON, CT - Cross Sound Ferry announced Friday that it has added a new ferry to its fleet, with a capacity of 50 autos and 300 passengers, to serve on the company’s route between New London and Orient Point in Long Island.
The Jennifer C., which made its maiden voyage Friday morning, marks the eighth vessel currently operating on the company’s New London – Orient Point route, according to a release. With the addition, Cross Sound’s service will offer up to 62 departures and arrivals daily, and can save a traveler up to 200 miles of driving along I-95 and I-495.
The new ferry is the former M/V PAMLICO acquired by Cross Sound late in 2015. The vessel has undergone extensive improvements at Thames Shipyard & Repair Co. since early 2016.

“We are proud to be able to add the Jennifer C. to the fleet and equally as proud of the work we have done to provide the accommodations our customers have come to expect from Cross Sound Ferry," Wronowski said in a release. "Passengers will find comfortable, climate-controlled cabins, a lounge, deli and ample work space and hookups for laptops and other devices."
Cross Sound worked with the U.S. Maritime Association (MARAD) in establishing a Capital Construction Fund to acquire the vessel. The program assists owners and operators of U.S. vessels in accumulating the capital necessary for the modernization and expansion of the U.S. merchant marine.
The vessel was purchased and refurbished solely with private funds provided by Cross Sound Ferry.
Cross Sound Ferry operates daily, year-round vehicle and passenger service between New London and Orient Point. Besides its fleet of vehicle and passenger vessels, the company also operates the Sea Jet I, a high-speed passenger only ferry.
