New London Beach Lands On Travel + Leisure's Best In US List

NEW LONDON, CT — The weather's beginning to heat up and soon flocks of beachgoers will be heading to the coast for sand, sun, and fun. And Connecticut has one of the best spots to do so in the country, according to a recently released list.

Ocean Beach Park in New London has made Travel + Leisure's "25 Best Beaches in the USA." Others on the list include Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii, and Coronado Beach in San Diego, California.

Here's what the publication had to say about Ocean Park Beach: "This half-mile, golden-sand beach with gentle tides provides great views of ferries and schooners sailing past the New London Ledge Lighthouse. Ocean Beach Park, located along the boardwalk, features a picnic area, playground, snack bar, mini-golf, arcade, and more. When you've had your fill of one of New England's premier sugar sand beaches, take a dip in the Olympic-size pool."

According to its website, Ocean Park Beach is "New England's finest sugar sand beach and boardwalk attraction." Parking at the beach is $30 on weekdays and $35 on weekends.

The beach receives a 4-star rating on TripAdvisor. One reviewer wrote: "We love this beach and the pool is awesome! So much to do and see."

Nearby in Stonington, duBois Beach recently made "America's Favorite 100 Secret Beaches," ranking 92 on the list.
