New London Board of Education Approves Electronic Meeting Attendance Policy

Voters may now attend meetings by electronic means.

NEW LONDON, CT- The Board of Education has approved a policy that allows its members to attend meetings and vote at them electronically, The Day reported.

Members may attend meetings via electronic communication tools such as Skype and FaceTime, according to The Day. Members in favor of the policy cited that it is legal as long as the public has access to the meeting and knows who will be speaking remotely.

The vote drew concern from a couple of members, with one claiming that it could be possible for someone to be elected to the board and never attend a meeting, as reported by The Day. A decision has not been reached, however, on whether there will be a limit to how many people can participate in a meeting remotely.
