New London Contemplates Next Step as Waterford Pulls Out of Friendship School Agreement
After giving a year's advance notice, the decision is expected to take effect in July 2017.

WATERFORD, CT- The Waterford School Board has announced that it will pull out of its agreement with New London to send students for Friendship School, a pre-kindergarten and kindergarten magnet school, as reported by The Day.
The move is in response to the board’s frustration with cuts to education funding in the recent state budget cycle, according to The Day. Waterford will honor its commitment to the upcoming school year, but plans to end its partnership on July 1, 2017.
The decision is expected to be discussed at the next Friendship School governing board meeting, which includes superintendents from the New London and Waterford school districts, The Day reported. Waterford is required by contract to give a year’s notice before pulling out of the agreement.
