New London Convenience Store Owner Arrested for Selling Untaxed Cigarettes
Police said the owner had nearly 200 cartons of untaxed cigarettes at his store.

NEW LONDON, CT – A convenience store owner was arrested Thursday for selling untaxed cigarettes, NBC Connecticut reported.
Mehulkumar Patel, 37, of Waterford is accused of buying tobacco products from out of state, according to NBC Connecticut. He would then allegedly reuse discarded tax stamps and print his own stamps, which he would then tape onto the products.
The Department of Revenue Services said they found 194 cartons of untaxed cigarettes, as well as about $100,000 worth of fraudulent state tobacco stamps, NBC Connecticut reported. Patel is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 31.
