New London County Affordable Housing Scorecards Released

The Center for Housing Equity and Opportunity has released scorecards ranking each municipality in the county.

NEW LONDON, CT — The Center for Housing Equity and Opportunity (CHEO) has released its affordable housing scorecards and will host a conversation on local affordable housing plans in New London this week.

CHEO, in partnership with Regional Plan Association and Desegregate CT, reviewed and scored the local affordable housing plans adopted by communities in New London County, assessing them against the recommendations set forward by the Connecticut Department of Housing.

Every municipality was required by law to have an affordable housing plan in place by June 1, 2022.

Ledyard scored the highest in the county with a 3.5 out 5. Stonington ranked at the bottom with a 1.5 out of 5.

Norwich is one of the the only municipalities in the county to have already reached or surpassed the 10% affordability target, with over 19% affordable housing stock in the city, according to CHEO.

The affordable housing conversation will be Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Connecticut College in New London.

Panelists will discuss the scores of individual affordable housing plans, the opportunities they offer for the region, how to translate them into action, and why they matter for Connecticut residents.
