New London Election Results 2018: Local Winners Revealed

NEW LONDON, CT — Voters cast their votes in Connecticut's statewide election Tuesday and most winners have been revealed. Governor, Lt. governor, state treasurer, state comptroller, attorney general and secretary of the state are all up for grabs. Several local state senate, state house of representative and judge of probate races will also be decided.

Locally, in New London the choices for the 20th Senatorial District are: Martha E. Marx, Democratic Party, and incumbent Paul M. Formica, Republican Party. The New London Day reported Tuesday night Formica won out against Marx in the 20th Senatorial District, according to unofficial results.

A former New London City Council member, Marx led the Public Works, Finance and School Buildings/Maintenance Committees. Raised in Waterford, Martha Marx graduated from UConn and raised her four children in New London. She also served as the first female chair of the New London Democratic Town Committee, president and vice president of AFT Local 5119, and District 3 Campaign Manager for Joe de la Cruz’ successful 2016 State Representative campaign, according to her website.

CT U.S. Senate Election Results 2018: Chris Murphy Vs. Matt Corey

State Senator Paul Formica represents the residents of the 20th Senatorial District. He was elected in 2015 and is currently serving his second term. At the state Capitol, Senator Formica is Co-Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Energy and Technology Committee, and Tourism Caucus, as well as a member of the Commerce Committee, according to his website.

New London residents also voted on the 41st House District race, in which incumbent Joe de la Cruz, Democratic Party, declared victory over Kenneth W. Richards, Republican Party, winning his second term, the New London Day reported Tuesday night.

In the 39th House District, incumbent Chris Soto, Democratic Party, ran unopposed.

According to his website, Soto is "a first-term legislator proud to serve the 39th Assembly District of New London...Guided by the core values of integrity, respect, and service, [Soto] is committed to serving his constituents and the state of Connecticut with the highest standards."

For the Judge of Probate race, Mathew H. Greene, a Democrat, ran unopposed.

All eyes are on the Governor’s race where the choices are: Ned Lamont, Democrat, Bob Stefanowski, Republican, Rodney Hanscomb, Libertarian, Mark Stewart Greenstein, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Oz Griebel, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The candidates for lieutenant governor are: Susan Bysiewicz, Democrat, Joe Markley, Republican, Jeffrey Thibeault, Libertarian Party, John Demitrus, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Monte E Frank, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The choices for the U.S. Senate race are: Matthew Corey, Republican Party, Christopher S. Murphy, Democratic Party, Richard Lion, Libertarian Party, and Jeff Russell, Green Party.

For the U.S. House of Representatives race the choices in the 2nd District are: Joe Courtney, Democratic Party, Danny Postemski, Jr., Republican Party, Daniel Reale, Libertarian Party, and Michelle Louise Bicking, Green Party.

In the Secretary of State race the choices are: Denise W Merrill, Democratic Party, Susan Chapman, Republican Party, Heather Lynn Sylvestre Gwynn, Libertarian Party, and Michael DeRosa, Green Party.

In the race for State Treasurer the choices are: Shawn Wooden, Democratic Party, Thad Gray, Republican Party, and Jesse Brohinsky, Libertarian Party.

For the position of State Comptroller the choices are: Kurt Miller, Republican Party, Kevin Lembo, Democratic Party, Paul Passarelli, Libertarian Party, and Edward G Heflin, Green Party.

For the position of Attorney General the choices are: William Tong, Democratic Party, Sue Hatfield, Republican Party, Peter D. Goselin, Green Party.
