New London Firefighters Promoted, Sworn In
Two firefighters were promoted and two were hired recently.

NEW LONDON, CT - The City of New London has announced the promotion of two career firefighters to the rank of Lieutenant and the swearing in of three new fire fighters.
New London Firefighters Timothy O’Reilly and Michael Coleman will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Charles Maxson, Benjamin Marcus and Mark Finnegan will be sworn in as New London firefighters.
Lieutenant O’Reilly was hired in 2008 and had previously been a career firefighter for the Town of Montville for 4 years. Lieutenant O’Reilly has attended numerous State certification classes. In 2017 he graduated Cum Laude from Three Rivers with an Associate in Science degree. O’Reilly will be assigned to Fire Headquarters, Group 2 as Engine 1 Lieutenant and will be under the Command of Battalion Chief Rheaume.

Lieutenant Coleman was hired in 2011. Lieutenant Coleman was originally from Winsted Connecticut and now resides in New London. He is a third generation firefighter. Coleman graduated from the University of New Haven with a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science. He attended the Connecticut State Fire Academy receiving 644 hours of classroom as well as on hands training. He has numerous State and Federal certifications.
Firefighter Maxson, who was inspired by his father to join the fire service at an early age, started out as a volunteer firefighter in Old Saybrook at the age of 15. Maxon attended Oklahoma State University where he majored in Fire Protection and Safety Technology.
On May 23rd, Firefighter Maxson graduated from the Connecticut State Fire Academy where he went through 644 hours of training receiving numerous certificates and hands on experience. Firefighter Maxson is also a State certified Emergency Medical Technician.
Maxon will be assigned to Group 4 under the command of Battalion Chief Nichols.
FF Marcus is from New Hartford Connecticut. FF Marcus has been working as a Police, Fire and EMS dispatcher for Litchfield County since 2012. He was also a per diem firefighter for the New Hartford Village Fire District. Marcus has numerous State and FEMA certifications. He is a State Certified EMT. Marcus is currently attending the Fire Science Program at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Firefighter Marcus will be assigned to Group 2 under the Command of Battalion Chief Rheaume.
Firefighter Finnegan was a career firefighter and Assistant Chief for the City of Meriden Fire Department. Finnegan is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire/Safety Engineering Technology. After graduating from college, Firefighter Finnegan worked for the Dallas Fire Department as a Fire Inspector. Firefighter Finnegan has attended various classes in Emmetsburg Maryland and has numerous State and Federal certifications. Firefighter Finnegan is a State certified EMT.
