New London to Hold Off on Buying Riot Gear for Police
The Mayor stated that he wanted a chance to discuss the issue with administration first.

New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio has ordered the police department to hold off on buying riot gear it requested last week, the Day of New London reports.
Finizio wrote in an email to Acting Police Chief Peter Reichard that members of the public and the police union were concerned that the gear would signal a âmilitary like escalationâ of law enforcement in response to local protests highlighting the issue of police brutality, the paper reports.
Finizio said at a City Council meeting Tuesday that he wanted a chance to discuss the issue with the union and the City Council.
