New London Magnet Schools Land On Prestigious List

Two local schools are being recognized by a national organization.

NEW LONDON, CT - Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School and Science & Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut have been named National Magnet Schools of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America.

NHAMS serves as the K-5 foundation of a developing K-12 arts pathway through a rigorous, integrated approach to education.

"This award and recognition is a testament to the amazing staff, families, and students at our school," NHAMS Principal Carlos X. Leal said in a statement. "We are dedicated in a collective effort to ensure that all of our students experience the best possible education and have access to an immense world of opportunities in the arts and beyond."

STMHS focuses on STEM education and has attracted students from 29 area towns.

Director, Laurelle Texidor said in a statemtn: “I must credit this marvelous accomplishment to our staff and parents who work diligently to support and challenge students to perform at their highest potential, regardless of their current levels. We are very pleased.”

An awards ceremony will be held at Magnet Schools of America’s 37th National Conference hosted by Baltimore County Public Schools in Baltimore, Maryland April 10-13, 2019.
