New London Man Charged In Car Crash, Assault: Ledyard Police
A man was arrested on allegations that he crashed his car into a tree and assaulted a woman, according to police.
LEDYARD, CT — A man is facing a litany of charges after he allegedly crashed into a tree and assaulted a woman, according to police. A witness called police Friday reporting a gold-colored Cadillac driving erratically on Route 214 approaching Spicer Hill Road.
The witness said the vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree, then returned to the road traveling in the eastbound lane.
Police put a notice out to surrounding agencies to look for the vehicle. Groton Town police later found the vehicle and a woman who had been in the vehicle who said she was assaulted by a man police identified as Frank Kelly.

The victim said Kelly had threatened to run the couple into a tree along with other threats. The victim said she was assaulted and sustained scratches and bruising.
Kelly was taken into custody by Ledyard police. He was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree strangulation, and evading responsibility for injury/property damage.

He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday and was held on $100,000 bond.
