New London Man Charged In Shots-Fired Incident: Police

A man is facing numerous charges following a shots-fired incident earlier this month. He was held on $750,000 bond.

NEW LONDON, CT -- A New London man was arrested on weapons charges following a shots-fired incident.

Rakim Thornton, 32, was charged with first-degree criminal attempt at assault, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Police responded to Rogers Street and Jefferson Avenue at 10:45 p.m. Feb. 18 on a report of gunshots. Police found evidence there of shots fired including shell casings in the area. A home and a vehicle were struck by gunfire.

No injuries were reported.

Police believe the incident was not random.

Police identified Thornton as a suspect in the shooting and obtained an arrest warrant for him. Police spotted him entering a Mountain Avenue business on Monday at 5:24 p.m. and took him into custody.

Thornton was held on $750,000 cash surety bond and scheduled for arraignment in New London Superior Court on Tuesday.

The investigation remains active.
