NEW LONDON, CT — A New London man accused in the brutal assault that killed a Chaplin man earlier this month has been extradited to Connecticut, according to The Norwich Bulletin. Matthew Candler, 55, was scheduled to be arraigned in Danielson Superior Court on Tuesday on a first-degree assault charge.

The charge is connected to the death of Jeffrey Rawson, 51, who was found dead in a 214 Miller Road home May 1. Prosecutors told The Norwich Bulletin that they are awaiting a medical examiner's report on the death before deciding whether to file additional charges.

He was held on a $500,000 bond.
