New London Man Strikes 2 Houses, Utility Pole while Driving Under the Influence

Police said a man was arrested on OUI charges after striking a house, utility pole and more with his vehicle. BREAKING

NEW LONDON, CT - Police said they arrested a man on OUI charges after responding to reports of an accident Tuesday night.

At approximately 10:09 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Chappell Street near Griswold Court in New London to investigate the report of a one car motor vehicle. Reports said two houses, a fence and a utility pole were struck in the accident, according to a release.

The driver of the vehicle, Herbert Brown, 48, of New London was located on scene of the accident. Police learned that Brown had been involved in some type of verbal disturbance prior to him operating his vehicle.

After further investigation, police determined that Brown was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence or alcohol and/or drugs.

Brown was charged with the following driving under the influence, operating under suspension, evading responsibility, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to drive right and disorderly conduct.

The suspect was held in lieu of $6,500 bond on all charges.

Brown suffered a cut to his lip in the crash, however no other injuries were reported during the incident. The structures sustained minimal damage.
