Mayor Finizio to Join Fight for $15 Rally in New London

[On Wednesday, April 15], on the front steps of City Hall, Mayor Finizio [joined] labor leaders, workers, civic leaders, and City Council President Pro Tem Efrain Dominguez for a “Fight for $15” rally in support of raising low wage earners’ pay in fields such as home health care, fast food service, retail and child care to fifteen dollars per hour.

“It’s unconscionable that so many corporations pay their employees poverty-level wages,” said Mayor Finizio. “Child care workers shouldn’t have to depend on SNAP benefits to feed their own children; home health aides and fast food workers should be able to keep a roof over their families’ heads; retail employees should be able to afford the products they sell.”

Former State Senator and AFT Connecticut President Melodie Peters, AFT Connecticut Vice President and AFT President, L&M Hospital Healthcare Workers Union President Harry Rodriguez, and other members of the Southeast CT Rising coalition will be speaking at the rally.

Other rallies and/or fast food strikes are also taking place in Hartford, Danbury and Manchester as part of a coordinated nationwide day of action. After gathering at City Hall, participants in the Fight for $15 rally [marched] to Parade Plaza.
