New London Middle School Earns CT Association Of Schools Award
The Connecticut Association of Schools recognized Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School Campus.
NEW LONDON, CT — Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School Campus has been named the Connecticut Association of Schools' Middle School of the Year, according to a district statement.
The award recognizes outstanding programs, leadership and a commitment to the whole child. New London Public Schools said Bennie Dover Jackson distinguished itself through instructional excellence, inclusive practices and a school culture centered on collaboration among students, educators, leaders, support staff and families.
“This award reflects the heart and soul of our school community,” Principal Chris Vamvakides said in a statement. “At Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, there is a deep and shared belief that every student can achieve at high levels. This honor belongs to all dedicated leaders, educators, engaged families, and most importantly, to our incredible students.”

The district said the school's multi-magnet model offers STEM, arts-focused and international education learning experiences while building academic and social-emotional skills. It said the school's focus on equity, student engagement and instructional excellence aligns with the district's vision to Unite in Excellence.
Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Ritchie said the school's success reflects leadership across multiple levels. “The middle school’s success is the result of strong and focused leadership at every level,” Ritchie said.
