New London Middle School On Lockdown [UPDATE]
A New London middle school was on lockdown due to a report of a weapon but police emphasized that students and staff are safe.

NEW LONDON, CT - Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School was put on lockdown Thursday at 9:08 a.m. after a report of a weapon at the school, but no weapon or threat was found, according to police.
"The school immediately initiated lockdown protocol and NLPD officers made immediate entry," police said in a statement. "A search of the location disclosed no weapon and/or threat. Students, staff, and location are safe. The investigation remains active."
A school spokesman told The Hartford Courant that classes were scheduled to continue through the day. Some parents wanted to pick up their children following the lockdown, which the school allowed.

A police captain told The New London Day that a student mistakenly thought a battery pack was a belt for a gun in a holster.
The incident comes a day after school was dismissed early due to rumors of a brawl, according to The Day.
