New London Murder Suspect Arrested: PD

Police said the suspect in a 2017 murder has been arrested and charged in Connecticut after being found in Massachusetts.

NEW LONDON, CT — Police said the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred late last year was recently arrested in Massachusetts and transported to Connecticut on Tuesday.

According to a news release, New London police responded to an Orchard Street residence on Dec. 9, 2017, at approximately 3:13 p.m. for a gunshot victim.

Police said the victim was identified as Quvonte Gray, who was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. New London police detectives, along with the Connecticut State Police-Eastern District Major Crime Squad and the New London States Attorney’s Office responded to investigate the incident.

According to police, 19-year-old Jamir Johnson of New London was identified as the suspect responsible for the murder following further investigation. Detectives secured an arrest warrant for the accused on charges of murder, possession of a pistol without a permit and unlawful discharge of a firearm, police said.

On Tuesday, detectives transported the accused back to Connecticut from Massachusetts, where he had been arrested on July 31 by the Halifax Police Department on charges of breaking and entering, possession of burglary tools, failure to identify, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property and being a fugitive from
justice (CT/NLPD arrest warrant), according to police.
