New London Police Arrest 2 Men Charged with Firing Shots, Fleeing from Officers

Police said additional arrests are expected.

NEW LONDON, CT - Police said they arrested two men Monday night for their suspected involvement in reported gunshots and fleeing from police.

At approximately 8:55 p.m., New London Police responded to the area of 55 Eastern Avenue in New London after a report of a gunshot and some type of disturbance at that location, according to a release.

As police arrived on scene, it was learned that a green Ford Aerostar van was involved and that it had left the area prior to police arrival. Police learned that all suspects involved were knew each other, and it was determined to be an isolated incident between the participants.

Police canvassed the area and saw the van traveling on Tilley Street. The van pulled over to the side of the street and a male jumped out of the van and approached officers.

As officers were securing the male, the van drove away from Tilley Street. The man was found to be in possession of a "stun-gun" electronic defense weapon and taken into custody.

The van was later found parked in a Holiday Inn parking lot on Governor Winthrop Boulevard. Police seized the van, and will further investigate its contents.

Approximately thirty five minutes after the first male was taken into custody, the suspected shooter arrived at New London Police Headquarters in an attempt to bail out the first male arrested. He was promptly taken into custody.

Aaron Baldwin, 20, was charged with Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Attempted Criminal Assault and Reckless Endangerment. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Jonathan Felix, 21, was charged with Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, and was also issued a citation for Possession of Marijuana. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Police said additional arrests are expected.
