New London Police Department Welcomes New Officers

The department swore in two new police officer candidates and had two newer police officers graduate from the Connecticut Police Academy.

NEW LONDON, CT — This afternoon, our Department sworn in two (2) new police officer candidates and had two (2) of our newer police officers graduate from the Connecticut Police Academy!

Police Officer candidates Nicholas Benjamin and Dominic Blesso were sworn in at City Hall while Officers Juan Hernandez and Officer Kwabena Benegyani graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy.

Police Officer candidate Nicholas Benjamin is a 22 year old resident of Stonington, CT and a recent graduate of the University of Hartford.

Police Officer candidate Dominic Blesso is a 28 year old resident of East Hampton, CT and a graduate of the University of Connecticut State.

Both Police Officer candidates Benjamin and Blesso will start their training on Thursday, 4/6/2023, at the Connecticut Police Academy, Meriden, CT. They will attend the training academy for approximately 30 weeks where they will receive all the essential training (approx. 1,345 hours) needed to complete field training and become a certified police officer in the State of Connecticut.

Officer Juan Hernandez and Officer Kwabena Benegyani after 28 long weeks of academy life, successfully completed the training program and graduated. Both Officer Hernandez and Officer Benegyani will now begin their respective 400 plus hours of field training with seasoned Field Training Officers (FTOs). Once completed, Officer Hernandez and Officer Benegyani will be assigned to the patrol division
