New London Police, High School Start Cadet Program

NEW LONDON, CT — New London Police Department in collaboration with New London High School announces the New London Police Department’s Youth Cadet Program!

The New London Police Department’s Youth Cadet Program is designed to provide our community’s young men and women a unique learning experience in police services through instruction, demonstration, community service, and hands on training. Cadets learn in both the classroom and field environment. The New London Police Department in partnership with New London Public Schools sponsors and supports the program. Youth Cadets also participate in New London community outreach events throughout the year.

The program is an excellent starting point for young adults interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Be between the ages of 14-19
• Be a student of New London High School
• Have a desire to serve the community and learn about law enforcement
• Must submit a formal application and successfully complete a selection process
• Must abide by the New London Police Department Youth Cadets rules, regulations, and guidelines
• Must commit to attending scheduled instruction sessions, meetings, and events

TRAINING:
Youth Cadets participate in law enforcement training to help better understand the career field. This training involves lectures, demonstrations, physical activity, and training scenarios where NLPD Youth Cadets can practice what they have learned.
Training topics include but not limited to:
• Criminal Law
• Criminal Procedures
• Domestic Violence
• Crisis Intervention
• De-escalation
• Police Application process and associated phases
• Crime prevention
• Traffic stops
• Arrest, search, and seizure
• Building searches
• Community Service
