New London Police Offer Citizens' Police Academy

NEW LONDON, CT — Few people would argue against the fact that law enforcement is one of the most fascinating careers one could choose to pursue. And you will never, ever, get the real, inside scoop of how a law enforcement agency works or why things happen the way they do on an evening newscast or on one of those prime time, "solve the crime in one-hour," television shows. But you can get a first-hand, up close and personal look at how the New London Police Department works, right from the men and women who are doing the job at the New London Police Department's 2023 Citizens' Police Academy. This free 10 week program (April 13, 2023 through June 15, 2023) is open to citizens, eighteen (18) years of age or older (applicants are required to undergo a cursory screening as part of the application process), on a first come, first served basis. You'll hear from members of specialized units and even receive some hands on training opportunities as well. Seating is extremely limited for this popular program so we encourage you to submit your application early. You won't find a better way to learn about the New London Police Department and the dangerous and difficult jobs that the men and women who serve within it do than by attending our citizens' police academy!

Important information for interested applicants

• The Citizens' Police Academy is for personal enrichment and not for certification or employment purposes.
• Prior to submitting your application, please be sure that you are able to commit to the academy schedule.
• The academy is a 10 week program. Classes meet THURSDAYS between 6 PM and 8:30 PM.
• REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years old and successfully complete a cursory screening.
• Remember, this program is extremely popular and the class size is limited. Be sure to complete your online application and submit it as soon as possible.
• Applications MUST BE RECEIVED by 1 PM on Friday, March 17, 2023
• First preference will be given to those who reside and/or work in the city.
