New London PD Officer On Admin Leave After Gas Station Brawl: Report
A New London police officer was put on administrative leave due to allegations that he was involved in a fight at a gas station.
NEW LONDON, CT — A New London police officer has been charged in connection with a fight at a gas station in Westerly, Rhode Island, The New London Day reported.
Thomas Northup, 55, was one of four men involved in the fight. He was placed on administrative leave last month.
Northup pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and simple assault and/or battery. He was previously fired from the police department for use of excessive force in 2012 but later rehired.

The Connecticut Board of Mediation and Arbitration ruled in 2013 that Northup was wrongly fired from his job in 2012 after shooting an unarmed suspect, NBC CT reported. At that time, Northup said he believed the man was reaching for a gun, but he was unarmed, NBC CT reported.
