New London Police Swear In 2 New Officers

The two officers began training this week.

NEW LONDON, CT —Police officer recruits Juan Hernandez and Kwabena Benegyani were both sworn in Wednesday at New London City Hall, according to a statement from the city. They began their training Thursday at the Connecticut Police Academy.

They will attend the training academy for approximately 30 weeks, receiving all the essential training (about 1,345 hours) needed to complete field training and become certified police officers in Connecticut, according to the statement.

Hernandez is a 25-year-old resident of New London and an NLHS graduate. Hernandez previously served in the United States Marine Corps.

Benegyani is a 25-year-old resident of Manchester and a graduate of Central Connecticut State University. Benegyani previously worked for the State of Connecticut in the Rockville Juvenile Court.
