New London Scrap Yard Fire Includes 'Multiple Explosions': FD
A fire at a New London scrap yard took two hours to extinguish and resulted in explosions due to propane tanks at the site.
NEW LONDON, CT — Firefighters extinguished a large blaze that involved multiple explosions at a New London scrap yard Tuesday afternoon, according to a fire department statement. Firefighters were dispatched on a report of a car on fire at 9200 240th Ave. NE in Burbank Township.
Firefighters were en route three minutes later and arrived to find a large fire at Windy Hill Auto Parts. Smoke was visible from New London, which prompted the fire department to request assistance from several other area departments.
The fire spread among several vehicles and scrap vehicle parts. Firefighters faced multiple explosions due to the large amount of propane tanks that the blaze spread to, according to the statement.

It took roughly two hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control. Firefighters used foam to assist in extinguishing the blaze and were on the scene for four hours.
No injuries were reported. The dollar loss is unknown at this time.
