New London Woman Receives Fellowship From Newman's Own Foundation

Paige Ziplow will work directly with Wellness in the Schools in New York.

New London resident Paige Ziplow was honored by Newman’s Own Foundation of Westport, as part of the organization’s first-ever Fellowship Program.

The program provides recent college graduates with work experience in the world of philanthropy and is designed to expand, enhance, and diversify the pipeline of new talent entering nonprofit careers.

Ziplow will work directly with Wellness in the Schools in New York, N.Y., while the other students will work with different nonprofit organizations across the country. The Fellows were selected based on demonstrated leadership skills, as well as commitment to social issues and community development.

They completed a two-day orientation, which included workshops in Team Building, Development Activities, and Diversity and Inclusion Leadership, as well as overviews of the host organizations.

Ziplow, a recent graduate of Connecticut College, is joined by the following students:

  • Ebiere Awudu of Nigeria, currently living in New Haven, received her M.A. in Communication from the University of Hartford. She was an intern at Newman’s Own Foundation and is continuing as a Fellow at Newman’s Own Foundation in Westport.
  • Ashley Boyd of Hyattsville, M.D., received her B.A. in Anthropology & Sociology and English from Lafayette College. Her Fellowship project is in collaboration with the SeriousFun Children’s Network in Westport and The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford
  • Karimah Shabbaz of South Ozone, N.Y., received her B.A. in Sociology from Bard College. She is a Fellow at The Posse Foundation in New York, N.Y.
  • Rey Llena of Yonkers, N.Y., received his B.A. from Trinity College. He is a Fellow at Newman’s Own Foundation in Westport
  • Rose Pierre-Louis of Hyde Park, M.A., received her B.A. in English from Bryn Mawr College. She is a Fellow at Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network in Hartford.
