New London Woman Rescued by Coast Guard After Two Hour Search

After a long search, she was eventually rescued.

NEW LONDON, CT- After nearly two hours of searching by New London Police and several fire departments, a Coast Guard boat found and rescued a woman who was swimming in the Thames River between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, The Day reported.

The woman’s, about 21, family called police after she did not return home from her regular swimming Wednesday, according to The Day. She reportedly may have been in the 60-degree water since 8 p.m.

A larger search was initiated when the woman’s clothes were found on the sand at Mitchell Beach, according to The Day. She was conscious and talking but tired, and was later transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.
