New London Won't Pursue Charges Tied To Columbus Statue
Police said they will not be charging people connected to criminal mischief involving a police substation, police cruiser, and statue.
NEW LONDON, CT — Police have announced that they will not be charging people connected to the incidents of criminal mischief associated with the Christopher Columbus statue, police substation, and police cruiser.
"We believe this is the right thing to do to move forward in a positive direction in our community," police said in a tweet.
A Facebook post by police on not filing charges had over 500 comments Wednesday morning.

The Christopher Columbus statue was vandalized with red spray paint. A petition circulating for its removal garnered 6,000 signatures.
The statue has been removed by the city and its future will be determined by the city council.
