New London - Jane Marie (Sylvia) Sheehan, 87, died peacefully at her home Tuesday, October 25, 2016, surrounded by her loving children and loyal cat Chip.
Daughter of the late Frank and Victoria (Zaleski) Sylvia, widow of Cpl. Dennis F. Sheehan Sr. of the NLPD; Beloved sister of Francis "Fay" (Sylvia) Lloyd, William "Billy" Sylvia, Karen (Sylvia) Peterson, and Richard Sylvia; Cherished mother of Dennis F. Sheehan Jr. and his wife Donna of East Lyme, Mary (Sheehan) Melton of East Lyme, and James P. Sheehan and his wife Annemarie of New London; Grandmother of Scott, Timothy, and Patrick Sheehan, Samuel, Daniel, and Amanda Melton; Great-Grandmother to Ava, Nina, Emma, Ella, Cooper, Colby, and Riley Sheehan, Caleb, Paytin, and Kaylee Melton.

Jane was predeceased by her siblings Frank J. Sylvia Jr., Elaine (Sylvia) Schmidt, and son-in-law Samuel A. Melton.
Jane was born in New London, CT on May 14, 1929 where she was raised with her six siblings. She met and married the love of her life Dennis, on Feb 28, 1949. Full of life and love, Jane was a dedicated wife, mother, daughter and sister to her beloved family. Jane's most treasured moments were those spent gathered with her family. Through the years, she enjoyed cooking, baking and reading in her spare time. Jane's kind heart knew no bounds. As a long time Communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Quaker Hill, Jane tirelessly devoted her time supporting various church activities. Jane served as past president and secretary of the Ladies Guild and was also a Eucharistic Minister, Church Lector and member of the church choir. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and a lifelong member of the Holy Ghost Society of New London.

The Sheehan family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for all their tremendous help and care provided to Jane in her final years. A special thank you to Elizabeth Aldana for her loving and dedicated care to our mother. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Allard and Masonicare.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Monday October 31, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Quaker Hill. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery New London. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday October 30, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home 12 Ocean Avenue New London. www.neilanfuneralhome.com
