Obituary: Madeleine C. Jarvis, 71, of New London
Maddy enjoyed meeting people of all different backgrounds and cultures and always loved learning new things.

Madeleine (Maddy) Christie Jarvis entered into this world on October 25, 1945, and passed away November 10, 2016.
She was born in Folkestone, County Kent, England to Hugh T. and Daphne Stella Mathews Christie (Chapin). As an infant, she arrived to the United States with her mother, traveling on the Queen Elizabeth II. They were shortly reunited with her father, Hugh, in New London, where she resided most of her life.

She and her family were parishioners of St. James Episcopal Church in New London, where she and her brothers sang in the choir. Maddy was always passionate about music and also learned to play the piano at a young age.
She graduated from New London High School, class of 1963. She studied accounting at the New London School of Business.

It was while working at the Savings Bank of New London in downtown New London that she met her future husband and father of her four children, Frank Etphage Jarvis, Jr. After a whirlwind courtship, the two eloped and were married on October 24, 1964. Frank and Maddy were both always very active in the lives of their children. Maddy was a Girls Scout leader for her eldest daughter Bonnie's troop.
She began working for the Bureau for Business Practices in 1987, and worked there until 1999 as a typesetter/layout editor and as a proof-reader. Maddy was a kind and generous person. She enjoyed meeting people of all different backgrounds and cultures and always loved learning new things. As mentioned before, Maddy was an avid music lover. She had a sizable array of music she loved, but her favorite by far was singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. She went to many of his performances in her later years, and many accompanied by her dearest friend, Noreen Barney.
Maddy passed away after a long and courageous battle of breast cancer. She is survived by her three daughters; Bonnie Jean Jarvis of Old Lyme, Theresa Marie Jarvis-Bolanos and her husband Steven Bolanos of Oakdale, and Jennifer Lynn Jarvis of New London. She also leaves behind six grandchildren; Maia Rose Bingham and her partner Justin Zachariewicz of Nevada City, CA, Raphael William Bingham of Old Lyme, Tabitha Rahaim of Plainfield, Kayleigh Alyssa Bolanos, Aiden Frank Bolanos, and Trent Eivar Bolanos of Oakdale. She is also survived by her three brothers; Hugh R. Christie of Ledyard, Bruce M. Christie of Ledyard, and John Christie of Norwich. She is also survived by her long time companion, Edward Veverous. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Frank E. Jarvis III (Skipper) and her devoted husband, Frank E. Jarvis Jr.
There will be a celebration of her life held on Friday, November 18th, and the Mohican Hotel ballroom from 4pm to 6pm, followed by a short service at 6:30 pm. All are welcome to come and share your fond memories of Maddy.Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St. in New London is assisting her family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages Maddy's friends and loved ones to donate to a charity of the donors choice.
