Obituary: Roxie Mae Hodges, 92, Of New London

NEW LONDON, CT — Roxie Mae (Lewis) Hodges, 92, of New London, died on Good Friday, March 30, 2018, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

Mrs. Hodges was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Tallahassee, Fla. She moved to St. Augustine, Fla. in her teens, where she later graduated from Excelsior High School.

Mrs. Hodges worked for many years as a companion to elderly residents, caring for them in their homes. She was a member of Walls Clarke Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) and the NAACP.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at Byles Memorial Home (99 Huntington St., New London). Burial will be private.
