New London, CT- The cutting edge “Open All Ports” exhibit opens to the public at Hygienic Art Galleries on Friday, February 26th from 5pm-9pm. This exciting exhibit explores connections and clashes between natural, cultural, economic and moral systems in a world of open ports. Fitting within the theme of the show, this is the second symposium where the Ammerman center has collaborated with Hygienic Art for the symposium exhibit opening the port between Connecticut College and downtown New London.

Two exhibitions from Open All Ports will be on view as part of the 15th Biennial Symposium for Arts & Technology organized by the Ammerman Center at Connecticut College.

Referencing technology through art installation within Hygienic Art’s underground gallery, OpenEnded Group’s Detroit Transect project was produced over five years in the city in which the dreams of the American Industrial Age rose and failed in the most spectacular fashion. Exploring the Detroit’s streetscape, schools and history using custom-made technological systems designed by Downie, a graduate of the MIT Media Lab, the group evokes a lyrical, eerie sense of presence as they attempt to unravel the myth and history of this city through motion and imagery. The exhibition features three excerpts from the project in full 3D projection. Participating artists include Marc Downie and Paul Kaiser. OpenEnded’s resume spans more than two decades, and includes venues such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Mass MOCA and the London ICA.

To be featured within the upper Galleries of Hygienic Art, the Open All Ports group exhibit includes a roster of artists from around the world, whose work engages the command or plea suggested by the exhibition’s title in myriad ways. Open All Ports artists include Katherine Bennett, João Costa, Angela Ferraiolo, Lindsey French, Brittany Ransom, Owen Roberts, Sheida Soleimani and Kelly Thompson.
