Open House On State Rail Plan Coming Up In New London

NEW LONDON, CT — The state Department of Transportation will hold an open house in New London on its proposed 2027-2030 State Rail Plan, according to a Facebook post from the city.

The event will be Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. in the large community room of the Public Library of New London, located at 63 Huntington St.

“The Connecticut State Rail Plan update is a crucial step to prepare and plan for the future of passenger and freight rail transportation in Connecticut,” DOT Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Jeffrey Gonneville said in a statement. “We encourage the public to attend an open house in the state to share their rail experiences with the project team.”

The plan is “a federally required planning document that establishes a vision for passenger and freight rail transportation throughout the state and identifies strategies, policies, and potential investments to support Connecticut’s rail network,” according to a news release.

“The plan helps guide future rail priorities and investments, supports economic activity and mobility, and informs transportation-related decisions across Connecticut and the broader Northeast region,” the release states.

The DOT has held similar events in New Haven, Stamford and Hartford.
