Pedestrian Seriously Injured When Struck By Vehicle In New London

The 60-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning while she was crossing Colman Street.

NEW LONDON, CT — A 60-year-old woman suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries Thursday morning when she was struck by a vehicle while she was crossing Colman Street in New London, according to police.

The crash occurred at about 9 a.m. near Bank Street, and the woman, whose identity was not released, was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment.

An arrest was made in connection with the crash, which temporarily closed a portion of Bank Street while officers investigated. The road has since been reopened.

Arrested was New London resident Zuniga Alvarado, 21, of Laurel Drive, who was charged with the following:

  • Failure to grant right of way to pedestrian crossing roadway within crosswalk
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while using a handheld mobile telephone to engage in a call or while using a mobile electronic device (1st offense)
