Police issued a statement about how youth playing with Orbeez guns may lead to "panic and fear among community members."

NEW LONDON, CT — Police are issuing a warning about youth using Orbeez guns in public areas.

Police said that "Orbeez guns can easily be mistaken for firearms, causing panic and fear among community members."

Orbeez are beads that expand when in water and are often used in toys.

Police wrote the following public service announcement on Facebook:

"NL Families, it's important to safeguard our youth from playing with Orbeez guns in groups in public areas without appropriate supervision and monitoring by adults. These Orbeez guns can easily be mistaken for firearms, causing panic and fear among community members. Such incidents can lead to serious misunderstandings and potential confrontations with law enforcement.
