Popular New London Diner Moving In With Wings 'N' Pies

A popular New London diner will be moving from its current location and sharing space with a nearby restaurant.

NEW LONDON, CT — A popular New London diner will be closing its current location and sharing space with a restaurant across the street. Monica's State Street Diner announced Wednesday the New London staple will move in with the popular restaurant Wings 'N' Pies, who specialize in pizza and a variety of chicken wings.

Monica's had originally announced Monday on the diner's Facebook page it would be closing after 15 years in business.

"With much sadness I am sorry to tell you that Monica's State Street diner will be closing for good this Friday," the post said, "please stop in and see us on Friday so we can all say goodbye together thank you everybody for all your support.

Everything changed Wednesday when a new post indicated the restaurant would not be closing after all, rather it would be moving in with another restaurant.

"I have some great amazing news," the new post said, "we have been blessed, the restaurant Wings and Pies across the street from our restaurant has given us a home. Starting January 1 we will be serving our complete menu, breakfast and lunch and dinner, across the street...I guess it really is true that when a door closes another one does open. Hope to see everyone there."

Owner Monica Rossi told the New London Day she will not be taking away from anything Wings 'N' Pies is doing, and that the two eateries are still ironing out the details of the agreement.

Monica's State Street Diner has a number of loyal fans in the community, and Connecticut Magazine recently listed the diner as one of the best in the state.
