Ravi Gas Station Closed Due to Health Code Violations

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, members of the New London Police Department obtained information that illegal narcotics were being sold out of the Ravi Mart gas station at 268 Bank St., New London.

“While on scene, officers observed numerous flies and other animals inside the store,” Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said in the police report. “Based on the filthy conditions inside of the store, Ledge Light Health District was contacted.”

The health district made the decision to close the store based on numerous health code violations, police said.

During the investigation, a detective sergeant and vice and intelligence officer arrested Ateeq Shafiq, 26, of an undisclosed address, on various drug charges. Shafig was charged with:

• Possession of a hallucinogen
• Possession of a hallucinogen with intent to sell
• Possession of more than four ounces of marijuana
• Possession of marijuana with intent to sell
• Possession of drug paraphernalia

Shafig was allegedly selling synthetic marijuana, also known as K2, while working at the Ravi Mart. Officers seized 145 bags of K2, 459 grams of marijuana and $4,040 in U.S. currency.
