Man Creating Disturbances in Downtown New London Has Lengthy Criminal History: Police
New London Police were called to Hot Rod Cafe on Wednesday, July 29, and arrested Kenneth Elyosius, who has a past history with police.

A man previously warned to stay out of Hot Rod Cafe, 114 Bank St., New London, was arrested on Wednesday, July 29, after paying the restaurant a visit.
Just prior to 5 p.m., New London Police were dispatched to Hot Rod Cafe to investigate the report of a man causing an alleged disturbance at the restaurant.
The man, later identified as Kenneth Elyosius, 62, reportedly entered the restaurant and allegedly told one of owner Rod Cornish’s employees that when he saw the business owner, he was going to kill him, Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said.

Elyosius’ address is unknown.
“Police had been called to the restaurant on July 23rd for a similar type incident involving Elyosius and Cornish declined to press charges as long as Elyosius agreed to never come back to the restaurant,” police said.

Elyosius was located a short distance away from Hot Rod Cafe exiting another establishment. He was promptly taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with:
- Trespass in the First Degree
- Breach of Peace
- Refusal to Submit to Fingerprints
He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
A Past History
Elyosius is reportedly well known in the area. On Tuesday, July 28, he allegedly refused to leave the Mystic River after anchoring his sailboat, according to The Day.
He allegedly swore at nearby people who were boating and reportedly refused to move his boat after police requested he move.
Elyosius then left in a smaller boat, which he rowed over to a portion of the river that is in Groton.
Based on the July 28 incident, he was charged with the following:
- Simple trespass
- Illegal obstruction of navigation
- Breach of peace
Police said Elyosius has been given warnings against trespassing, after becoming an unwelcome guest at local business and marinas.
Past Convictions and Arrests
- Convicted of impersonating law enforcement personnel
- Convicted of driving while intoxicated
- Convicted of probation violation and violating a protective order
- Arrested in 1997 for allegedly assaulting two Manchester police officers
- Convicted of assault against a Bristol police officer in 2003
- Arrested for reckless operation of a vessel in the first degree in 2012
- Arrested in 2013 in Florida, after allegedly attacking a fellow homeless man with a pipe and creating a disturbance at the hospital
