Restaurant To Be Auctioned Off This Week, Starting Bid May Shock

The starting bid for this restaurant may surprise you.

WATERBURY, CT — On Thursday, city officials will auction off a restaurant located at 2620 South Main Street, according to the city's website. The bidding will start at $175,000.

The property is currently the location of the Brass House Restaurant, which is listed on Yelp as a diner serving American food.

According to the Republican-American, the nearly 6,000-square-foot restaurant is valued at $539,006. Corporation Counsel Linda Wihbey told the paper last month the owners allegedly owe the city over $330,000 in unpaid real estate taxes and sewer and water fees.

The property previously hosted a Howard Johnson's restaurant before the owners broke away from the chain in 2007, according to the Republican-American. The building is owned by KNB Properties of Stamford.

The restaurant has received mixed reviews on Yelp, with some praising the portions and quality of the food while others noted some issues with their meals.

"The restaurant is improving more and more," Yelp reviewer Joe M. wrote in April. "I hope next time I can up my review. There are still a couple of sticky points that are still there."

"This place is an epic win for midnight breakfast," Yelp reviewer Dominik D. wrote last year. "Loved the French toast, the eggs were spot on, and the bacon and sausage was great too!"

The Brass House Restaurant is not the first in Connecticut to be auctioned off this year. According to the Record-Journal, the vacant Brothers Restaurant property in Wallingford was scheduled to be auctioned off in September nearly two year after the restaurant closed in January 2017.

All auctions are held at Waterbury City Hall (235 Grand Street) in Veteran's Hall. Registration starts at 5 p.m. and auctions start at 6 p.m.
