So much for this winter being a bust in Connecticut.

This morning the National Weather Service was predicting a series of nuisance snowstorms this week for Connecticut but as for actual accumulation it was predicted to be very light.

Most of the state was initially looking at between a coating to up to two inches of snow by Tuesday and far eastern Connecticut including New London County was expected to receive 2-4 inches of snow.

Well that’s all out the window now, and in an update the National Weather Service has issued a “Winter Weather Advisory” for Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, and Tolland counties.

A “Winter Storm Warning” has been issued for Middlesex and New London counties.

Besides snowfall estimates significantly increasing, the timing will be a real issue as it’s expected to impact the commute back to work Monday morning. WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons says there are likely to be school issues Monday too.

The advisories and warnings are all in effect beginning at 3 a.m. Monday statewide, except for Hartford and Tolland counties, which is in effect at 4 a.m. and the advisories and warnings continue through Monday evening.

Here is the latest forecast by county via the National Weather Service:

Fairfield/New Haven counties: Snow is predicted to accumulate between 3-5 inches, and winds will gust up to 25 mph. The temperature will be around 30 degrees. Visibilities will also be reduced. Snow begins early Monday and continues through the afternoon before tapering off.

Middlesex/New London counties: Heavy snow and wind is forecast here with accumulations totaling 4-8 inches and winds gusting up to 30 mph leading to “near blizzard conditions,” the National Weather Service says. Visibilities will also be reduced, and with the wind and heavy snow more power outages are possible. Travel conditions may also be hazardous, the weather service writes.

Hartford/Tolland counties: Snow is expected to accumulate between 3-6 inches. Snow begins around 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. here and doesn’t wrap up until late afternoon. Travel may be difficult and winds may gust up to 25 mph. Temps will be in the mid 20s and visibilities will be reduced.
